Strawberry Daiquiri Mocktails

Strawberry Daiquiri Mocktails are a classic summer party drink sans the rum. These combine frozen strawberries, freshly squeezed limes, honey simple syrup, and tonic water – all blended up and served in fancy glasses with a strawberry and lime garnish. Super refreshing and perfect for adults and kids alike!

I recently shared a Strawberry Vodka Lemonade and knew that I needed to create a strawberry drink that everyone could enjoy (sans liquor). Just fyi, you can make that one virgin too, by replacing the alcohol with more strawberry and more lemon!

What are mocktails?

Mocktails are non alcoholic cocktails or a mixed drink without the liquor! Mocktails are the perfect choice for people who are pregnant, breast-feeding or avoiding alcohol. These would also go over well at a teenage party! With a little direction, you can make drinks that are super tasty and safe for everyone to drink.

Virgin Strawberry Daiquiris

Believe it or not, this is my first official virgin cocktail on the blog. Sure, I’ve got Berry Peanut Butter Smoothies, Orange Julius Smoothies, Pumpkin Spice Lattes, and Caramel Lattes. None of those contain alcohol. But when you’re throwing an evening party, you need something different. You need a mocktail – something that looks and feels like a cocktail but isn’t.

Let’s be honest. I DO enjoy a cocktail (or two). But there are many occasions when a mocktail is a welcomed addition to the menu. For any number of reasons, you may have guests that would rather avoid alcohol, and it’s nice to have an option for them too, besides a glass of soda or plain water. Make them feel welcome with a fancy drink sans liquor!

Ingredients Used:

The ingredients used for these drinks are very simple. You WILL need to prep a bit in advance though. Read on!

  • Frozen Strawberries – Use frozen strawberries without added sugar. There are a lot of natural sugars in strawberries and we’ll be adding some sweeteners as well.
  • Limes – You’ll need enough limes for about 2/3 cup of juice. Avoid the bottled stuff because it’s not NEARLY as tasty as fresh! Make sure you use a citrus press to get all that juice out.
  • Honey Simple Syrup – I’ve got a simple recipe on the blog, but you could easily substitute regular simple syrup as well. See below.
  • Tonic Water – I used tonic water for some extra bubbly in these. However, you could use Sprite or 7Up instead for a sweeter taste. Either one works well in these mocktails!
  • For garnish – I’m all about the garnish! You’ll want to include a couple of fresh strawberries and lime slices to the glasses.

NOTE: If you prefer a less tart drink, use LESS lime juice. And if you prefer a sweeter drink, use MORE simple syrup.

How to make Strawberry Daiquiri Mocktails

Step 1 Make the honey simple syrup. Combine equal parts honey and water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Then reduce heat to a simmer, and let cook down a bit, for approximately 7-8 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool. Refrigerate.

This first step should be prepared well in advance of making the mocktails. You want to simple syrup to be completely cooled off and chilled before use.

You could also make regular simple syrup (in place of honey simple syrup). Use equal parts sugar and water and simmer until the sugar is dissolved. Refrigerate.

STEP 2 – Squeeze limes. Use a citrus press to squeeze the limes. You’ll need about 2/3 cup of juice.

STEP 3 – Place ingredients in a blender. Combine the frozen strawberries, fresh lime juice, honey simple syrup, and tonic water.

STEP 4 – Blend. Pulse to blend. If the mixture is too thick, you can thin it with water. Just use a little bit at a time so the drink stays rather thick.

STEP 5 – Serve. Serve these virgin daiquiris in some pretty glasses with garnishes of your choice.

BTW, I love having a variety of cool glasses at my disposal. These came from World Market, but I love shopping at Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel too. If you’re lucky, you can snag some deals at Home Goods as well!

How do I turn this into a cocktail?

To turn a strawberry daiquiri mocktail into a cocktail, simply replace the tonic water with white rum. We prefer Bacardi, but any version will do as long as you stay away from the super cheap stuff.

Expert Tips:

  • Prep in advance. When you’re making mocktails for more than just you, it’s important to prep to make sure you have everything planned out. You can make this one in advance without a problem, but some drinks will require some last minute prep.
  • Use fresh ingredients. For this recipe, make sure you use fresh limes. Mine were perfectly big and juicy so they provided a ton of juice.
  • Focus on presentation. Use some nice glasses for mocktails. None of those red solo cups, ya’ll! I love to keep a variety of mason jars because they are so versatile. You also can’t go wrong by shopping at Crate and Barrel or Pottery Barn for super cute glasses!
  • Garnish. Now that I’m a food and cocktail/mocktail blogger, I’m all about the garnishes. Wedges of lemons, limes, oranges, strawberries, sprigs of mint, as well as salt and sugar rims are key. The sky is the limit here!

Party Snacks

Party snacks are key to summertime (or anytime) fun. Give one of these a go for your next gathering. You’ll be glad you did!
