Cheeseburger Bowls

Burgers are one of our absolute favorite things to throw on the grill in the summer – but let’s be honest, sometimes the weather just doesn’t cooperate. On those cold or rainy days when grilling is off the table, I still want all that classic burger goodness, and that’s exactly how this recipe was born.

What you’ll need to make Deconstructed Burgers:

The following ingredients are everything you need to make a deconstructed burger with classic burger toppings.

  • The Beef Mixture – A quick combo of lean ground beef, onions, Worcestershire Sauce, and seasonings. This is a super flavorful ground beef mixture.
  • Special Sauce – This sauce combines mayo, ketchup, mustard, dill pickle relish, Worcestershire sauce, and seasonings – and is quick to make.
  • Yellow Potatoes – Our go-to oven roasted potatoes – just a simple combo of potatoes, olive oil, salt, and pepper.
  • Cheese – Any cheese will work here. Use your favorite!
  • Veggies – We added lettuce and tomatoes to these bowls.
  • Pickled Red Onions – Keep a jar of pickled onions on hand in your refrigerator or use regular red onion – or dill pickles.

Recipe Substitutions and Variations:

  • Instead of ground beef, use ground turkey, ground chicken, or any kind of sausage.
  • Use another dressing. Try our Chipotle Ranch Dressing or Dill Pickle Ranch Dressing.
  • If you don’t want to make pickled onions, you can use any type of onions.
  • Instead of adding roasted potatoes, you could prepare frozen french fries from the store for a short-cut.
  • Use other veggies as desired.

How to make Cheeseburger Bowls:

Step 1
Make burger sauce. In a small mixing bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, dell pickle relish, Worcestershire sauce, and seasonings. Whisk well to combine and then store in the refrigerator for later.

Step 2
Make the beef mixture. Heat up a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, diced onions, Worcestershire Sauce, and seasonings (garlic powder, onion powder, kosher salt, and freshly ground black pepper).

Stir the beef frequently until cooked completely through.

Step 3
Make roasted potatoes. Meanwhile, chop the potatoes and add to a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Add olive oil, salt, and pepper over the top and use your hands to combine.

Step 4
Assemble bowls. Add the beef mixture and the roasted potatoes to serving bowls. Top with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and pickled onions (or pickles). Then drizzle the special sauce over the top.

Step 5
Serve. Serve these bowls warm or at room temperature.

Store leftovers in airtight containers in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. You can also meal prep this recipe. Combine the meat and potatoes in containers and everything else should be stored sepaately.

Recipe FAQs:

Can I use a different type of ground meat?

Absolutely! 85% lean ground chuck is ideal because the fat content keeps the meat juicy and flavorful, but 80/20 works great too. Leaner ground beef like 90/10 can work but may result in a slightly drier filling – so don’t skip the Worcestershire sauce if you go that route!

What type of potatoes work best for this recipe?

Yellow potatoes are our top choice – they have a naturally buttery flavor and crispy up beautifully in the oven. Russet potatoes work great too if that’s what you have on hand, just cut them into similar sized pieces for even cooking.

Can I make the burger sauce ahead of time?

Yes, and it actually tastes even better after sitting in the refrigerator for a few hours! Make it up to 3 days ahead and store in an airtight container until ready to use.

Can I meal prep this recipe?

Absolutely! Cook the meat and roast the potatoes ahead of time and store separately in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Keep the toppings and sauce separate and assemble the bowls fresh when you’re ready to eat.
