Frozen Cherry Margaritas

I’m a girl who loves a good margarita on a warm summer night. Heck, I’ll even take one on a cold winter day! So when I get a new idea in my head, I’m going for it.

While margaritas are my cocktail of choice, I rarely order when out unless they have a skinny version. Because let’s be honest – sugar and tequila and being in my 50’s don’t really mix that well.

I normally don’t add simple syrup to our margaritas at home unless I’m serving guests. And recently, I’ve started using Agave Syrup if we need to sweeten up cocktails a bit.

Why This Recipe Works:

  • SIMPLE – Just five simple ingredients to the best margaritas! Throw it all in a blender and you’re ready for happy hour. The perfect drink!
  • REFRESHING – Margaritas are known for their refreshing nature, and cherry margaritas are no exception. The combination of cold, icy texture and cherry flavor makes these fruity cocktails perfect for hot summer nights.
  • VIBRANT COLOR – The vibrant red color of cherry margaritas adds an appealing visual element to the drink. It looks vibrant and inviting, making it a great choice for special occasions. These are a new favorite!
  • CUSTOMIZABLE – Like traditional margaritas, cherry margaritas can be customized to suit your taste preferences. You can adjust the sweetness or tartness by altering the amount of cherries or lime juice. Additionally, you can choose to rim the glass with salt or sugar for added flavor and visual appeal.

Ingredients used for the best frozen cherry margarita:

  • Tequila – Tequila is the primary spirit in a margarita and provides a distinctive smoky and earthy flavor to the drink. We prefer using blanco tequila in this classic cocktail recipe.
  • Cointreau – Cointreau is a premium orange liqueur that adds a touch of sophistication and complexity to this margarita. I’m a big fan of this liqueur for margaritas but triple sec could be substituted as well.
  • Limes – Fresh lime juice is tart and acidic and helps to balance the sweetness of the sweet cherries in the drink. It adds a bright and citrusy flavor to the cocktail.
  • Agave – Agave nectar is a sweetener that is derived from the sap of the agave plant. It is often used as a substitute for simple syrup as it is sweeter than sugar and has a lower glycemic index.
  • Frozen Cherries – Black cherries are a key ingredient and frozen cherries are super easy to keep stocked for these margs! We love the fruity flavor of these homemade cocktails!
  • Ice – You’ll need 3-4 cups of ice to add to the blender (for each batch).
  • For serving – You’ll want to add a salted rim to each glass. We like adding a lime slice and some cherry garnish too.

To make cherry margaritas on the rocks, simply use tart cherry juice instead of frozen cherries and serve them over a handful of ice. Likewise, if you are lucky enough to live in Michigan (like my brother) and could take advantage of cherry season, use fresh fruit to make this fun drink.
