Puppy Paw Print Cookies

Our precious pup of 14 years was set free on the afternoon of January 23, 2025. This is a dedication post in his honor. 🐾

Prince Theodore Alexander Ringsdorf (yes, he had a full name WITH a title) was adopted into our home when our boys were 14 and 11. Back in the early years, he was a jumping, running, squirrel-chasing guy who loved car rides, short walks, lots of belly rubs, sleeping under our beds, and CHEESE (lots of cheese)!

While Theo had many great years, he also had his share of setbacks, including four surgeries and blindness in both eyes. He managed times of hardship with much optimism and a continued penchant for greenies (and more greenies).

The loss of our fur baby has left a large hole in our hearts. Fourteen years of tail-wagging greetings when we arrived home is something that just doesn’t leave you. And yes, we even miss his snoring (think freight train loud!). He truly was the “goodest boy”. 🐶

Why This Recipe Works:

  • SIMPLE – This recipe starts with a basic Peanut Butter Cookie recipe that originated with my mother. This is a never fail recipe that you should try – with or without the chocolate.
  • CHEWY TEXTURE – The texture of these paw print cookies is nice and chewy. You’re going to love them!
  • PERFECT BALANCE OF FLAVORS – There is nothing better than a combo of peanut butter and chocolate, especially in cookies. Try our Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Blondies next.
  • PUPPY LOVE – When you’re dog lovers like us, you’re going to want to share these with your friends with fur babies!

What You’ll Need:

  • Butter – I always unsalted butter.
  • Sugars – A combo of brown sugar and granulated sugar.
  • Peanut butter – I use creamy peanut butter for this recipe.
  • Large Egg
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Kosher salt, baking soda, baking powder
  • Flour – 100% all-purpose flour is required.
  • Chocolate – You’ll need 24 dark chocolate melting wafers (I like the Ghirardelli brand) and dark chocolate chips.

How to make Puppy Paw Print Cookies:

Step 1
Combine wet ingredients. In the bowl of a large standing mixer (using a paddle attachment), combine softened butter and both sugars. Mix until creamy. Then add the egg, vanilla extract, and peanut butter and mix again until well combined.

Step 2
Add dry ingredients. Add the flour, kosher salt, baking powder, and baking soda – and combine until flour is just absorbed.

Step 3
Form cookie balls. Use a small cookie scoop or a tablespoon to form 24 equal cookie balls. Roll with your hands.

Step 4
Chill. Place pan in the refrigerator for two hours to chill. You can also refrigerate overnight.

Step 5
Prep oven and pan. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Add parchment paper to a large sheet pan.

Step 6
Bake. Place eight small cookie balls on the prepared pan. Bake cookies for 9-10 minutes.

Step 7
Add chocolate. Remove pan from the oven and lightly press a melting wafer into one side of each cookie. Then add four dark chocolate chips for the claws into each cookie. Return pan to the oven and bake for 3-4 additional minutes, or until slightly browned.

Step 8
Cool. Remove cookies from oven and add a sprinkle of sea salt. Let the cookies rest on the pan for five minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

Storing and Freezing:

  • Store paw print cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for 3-4 days.
  • You can freeze the cookie balls or the baked cookies for up to three months.

  1. How fun and tasty. We do not get much snow in Texas, so my favorite moment was taking a walk with Theo before anyone else was out. I took him off the leash and he explored like the boss that he was! The only snow tracks were the ones we were making.

These cookies are so good! My grandbaby LOVED them! The sprinkle of sea salt on top was a great balance for the sweet chocolate and peanut butter!. The paw print design is absolutely darling! We will absolutely be making these again!
