Godfather’sTaco Pizza combines homemade pizza dough with jarred taco sauce, fresh veggies, spicy taco meat, and shredded cheese. This copycat version is unbelievably tasty and perfect for pizza night!
1cupshredded cheese- we use Mexican shredded (Tillamook) but any cheese is fine
lettuce, tomato, sour cream, black olives- to serve
Instructions
Make dough. Use my homemade pizza dough recipe to make the BEST DOUGH. Here in Texas, it doesn’t take long for it to rise because of our warmer climate. My recipe makes three medium-sized pizzas, so I double it when I’m having a large group. (You'll just need one portion for this recipe.)1 medium pizza dough
Prep veggies. Slice red onion and bell pepper. Set aside.1/2 medium bell pepper, 1/4 small red onion
Cook taco meat. Heat a cast iron skillet to medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, chopped onions and jalapeños – and cook until beef is cooked through, stirring frequently. Then add the taco seasoning (homemade or store-bought) and cook for a few more minutes.1/2 pound ground beef, 1/4 cup onion, 1/2 medium jalapeno, 1 Tablespoon taco seasoning
Arrange dough. To start, roll out the dough. We either press the dough into a greased cast iron skillet for the oven or on a board lined with parchment paper (sprinkled with cornmeal) for the grill (that we slide on top of a pizza stone).
Add toppings. Spread taco sauce on the dough. Then add the taco meat, sliced veggies, and cheese.1/2 cup taco sauce, 1 cup shredded cheese
Bake (or grill) – Cook pizza at a high temp. We use 475-500 degrees in our oven or at least 500 degrees on our grill/smoker. The pizza is done when the crust is nice and golden brown to your liking.
Serve – Serve pizza with some shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, sliced black olives, sour cream, and an extra drizzle of taco sauce.lettuce, tomato, sour cream, black olives
Notes
If grilling the pizza, you'll need either a pizza stone or a cast iron skillet. If baking in the oven, you can use a stone, a skillet, or even a baking sheet.
Store leftover pizza in an airtight container in your refrigerator for 3-4 days.
