Ingredients
For the hot chocolate:
1/4cupwater
1/4cupunsweetened cocoa powder
1/4cupgranulated sugar
5cups2% milk
2cupsheavy cream
2teaspoonvanilla
6ouncesBaker's semisweet baking chocolate bar
For the whipping cream:
1cupheavy cream
2Tablespoonspowdered sugar
1teaspoonvanilla
chocolate shavings or melted chocolate- to serve
candy canes- to serve
Instructions
In a medium sauce pan over medium heat, warm water for a few minutes. Add cocoa powder and sugar, and whisk until smooth.
Add milk, heavy cream, and vanilla - and continue whisking until heated through, about 5-10 minutes. Break baking chocolate in pieces and add to pan. Continue stirring until chocolate is melted and mixture is hot and creamy.
For the whipping cream, combine the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla in a medium bowl. Using a hand mixer, beat until stiff peaks form.
To serve, pour hot chocolate in mugs. Spoon whipping cream over top with some chocolate shavings or melted chocolate, and a candy cane.
Notes
This recipe makes 8 cups of hot chocolate, or about 5 servings (each 1.5 cups).
