I love this so much! There are some similarities in our stories. Definitely the “coming to the rescue stories” when we had babies, moved, had health issues, were hosting large graduation parties…. I have a photo of Mom and Dad on their hands and knees scrubbing the deck (there were some oil stains that they felt could be removed with elbow grease), and my hutch was also the target of Mom’s polishing cloth. Of course the cookies and bread…no one baked like Grandma Norma. They were pretty amazing helpers. Hope I can be at least half the helpers they were.

My parents were also our rescuers and actually provided cheap rent of a double-wide on their 30 acre nursery so I could stay home with my first baby. We thought we’d only stay a couple years, but ended up staying there 17 years! I probably wouldn’t have been willing to have 4 kids but for their help and support. They were marvelous.
Now they are in their 80s and we are their “assisted living” in a shared house near OUR grandkids. It’s a beautiful legacy. Their grandchildren appreciate them so much. Mom has dementia, so I already miss her a lot. She was a great cook and so I learned a lot of bold experimentation from her. Now I enjoy cooking for Dad, who enthusiastically verbalizes his appreciation every night. He has loved all your recipes I’ve tried!
